Have you ever reached for something — a drink, a pill, a buzz — just to take the edge off? You're not alone, and there's no shame in admitting it. In this honest, no-judgment conversation, Terri pulls back the curtain on the complicated relationship between anxiety and the quick fixes we reach for when we just want to feel better — from alcohol and THC to prescribed benzodiazepines like Ativan.

Drawing from her own personal experience and years as a nurse, Terri shares what she's seen — and lived — when it comes to chasing calm through substances. The hard truth? The buzz wears off. The euphoria fades. And the anxiety? It's still there, waiting.

This episode isn't about labeling your choices as good or bad. It's about asking a deeper question: Are you managing your anxiety, or just escaping it for a while?

If you're ready to stop dulling the noise and start doing the deeper work, this episode is your starting point.

Today I wanna talk about euphoria, buzz for anxiety, and the complicated pairing. So you have choices to cope with anxiety and overwhelm.  I've used a variety of options to soothe my anxiety.  And I've seen some destructive choices by patients, coworkers and friends. Friends who chose to or got benzodiazepines from their friends  and then they got addicted.

It's not good to watch  the self-destruction with meds and alcohol.  I'm all for prescribed medications, especially those for long-term use,  and yet prescribers will challenge you to find the root cause of your anxiety.

Personally, I've used alcohol and THC drinks and prescribed benzodiazepines like Ativan,  and I'm not saying these are good or bad choices.

What I know to be true is that the calm, the euphoria, the buzz, it wears off and the anxiety is still there.

All I did was dull it,  escape it for a time,  but I did not erase it.

You want that quick fix, but the quick fix never lasts. Anxiety will return. And for most of us digging up, the root cause of the anxiety is how you're gonna be able to manage it and take back control.

Anxiety is not your identity.  It's a diagnosis, an alarm,  or a genetic disposition.  Go to anchorednotanxious.com.  And listen to the podcast. Get the resources to manage anxiety, overwhelm, and worry.  You deserve it.
